From 26th September – 1st October 2022 the Hobbit team visited Smartno primary school in Slovenj Gradec in Slovenia for a STEAM filled week. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths and the protagonists of the project are four super inventor dolls, designed by children from each of the countries. The Dutch teachers brought Super Horse Duck, one of the Super inventors (who is from Portugal, one of our project countries, so the Sicilian colleagues could take him with them. They received Mighty Healer, who is from Portugal and who can heal you or calm you down.
The week in Slovenia started up with workshops at the faculty of pedagogics and at the House of Experiments in Ljubljana. After this we took a bus to drive to Slovenj Gradec. On our way we tasted Slovenian food for the first time and it was delicious!
In the upcoming week we had more workshops on electricity and magnetism, saw the school and the classes as well as a KIndergarten class. Also the children had prepared us a musical about the super inventors and greeted and sang to us in our own languages.
Meanwhile we had the opportunity to get to know Slovenian culture and learn a lot about electricity, the topic of the new theme and book for the Super Inventors. We had a meal at a host family and tasted a lot of delicious food, smelled the Pelger bee wax candles and… visited a church with a glass floor where the exclavations were made visible (such as the skeleton of a mother holding her baby in her arms). In november the children will meet each other online for a little etwinning project. We want to thank all teachers and children from Slovenian who went above and beyond to make this a week we will never forget and which will be the basis for our electricity topic in January.
