Citizenship is part of the curriculum of KC Caleidoscoop. That is why the group 8 teachers, Jasper Vrijsen and Marleen Vos, decided to set up an eTwinning project with Yvonne Scherphof (Such Fun!) and CEIP Andres Garcia Soler primary school in Lorca. eTwinning is an online cooperation with a class abroad. In this project, called Anglomania, we wanted to give children an insight in the culture and school life of their partners in the other country. Children from our two schools worked together and competed against each other. The title is referring to the fact that most of the activities took place during the English classes and were in English.
First we introduced ourselves through a video.
Next we designed personal Vokis in both schools.

After which we made logos for our project on apps or drawn by hand.

Next we made murals with information about Food, music, art, festivals etc in our countries.
The Spanish classes made a beautiful eTwinning corner with their murals:
Finally we had a plickers quiz-race to conclude our project and see who knew most about their own and each other’s country. These were our questions:

In both countries the children knew quite a lot about both their own country and the country of their friends. They could hold up a code, which Ms Yvonne’s mobile app could scan in one go…. The winners were: Oscar from mister Jasper’s class and Tijn from miss Marleen’s class!
We also spoke through Skype at the end of our project, but it was a bit hard to understand each other. That’s why after school a couple of kids stayed to talk in a small group, which was really nice and it gave us the possibility to ask all the questions we prepared and even sing a bit of our musical for our Spanish friends!
Our friends in Lorca received the eTwinning Quality Label for our project and we hope to still get that in the Netherlands as well!
It was fantastic having the chance to work together with friends from Spain and to put our English into practice. Group 8 pupils will now go to secondary schools, where we hope there will be more international projects like these waiting for them! Would you like to find out more about eTwinning?
