With students from Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham and the minor of English Fontys PABO we’ve developed a CLIL lesson series about Henry VIII. This English king (1491-1547) did not just join Wales and England, but he’s also known for the six wives he had. Which is actually the reason he founded the Church of England, in which the king is head of the church instead of the pope in Rome. Currently still 20% of the British people still belongs to this church.
We’ve finished this topic with a Henry VIII Escape Room in all the schools. The Such Fun team was dressed up as Tudors and pupils had to solve puzzles and hold dialogues within the topic. Solutions led to opening the locks and collecting words that together would form a sentence. Those pupils who were the first to make a 9 words sentence, were the winners of the Escape room of their class.
There was an executioner walking around to see if pupils would speak English only. If not, they would get a strike card, that would cost them 10 penalty seconds…
All Escape rooms were very exciting and we were very impressed by how much pupils knew about Henry VIII, his wives and how well they knew the dialogues.
